King Salmon Fishing Berkeley: Salmon Trips Out of the Gate

King salmon fishing Berkeley trips with Reel Addiction Sportfishing leave the Berkeley Marina and run out of the Gate after kings. This is the season everyone waits for. It suits anyone who wants a real day on the ocean with a small group. Maybe you fish every week. Maybe you have never held a rod. Either way it works. These are six-pack boats, so there are never more than six anglers on board. That means room at the rail and a captain who has time to help you. We fish Berkeley, San Francisco, San Francisco Bay, Oakland and Emeryville, and the Berkeley Marina is home port for all of it.

Salmon trips run in July, September and October. On the home page we say king salmon run out of the Gate through the end of October. That is what I can tell you here. The exact days open on our calendar, and the captain confirms what is open by phone. If salmon is not running when you want to go, there are other trips. Halibut runs April to August on the ocean side. Dungeness crab is November and December. Catch and release sturgeon is January to April inside the Bay. Lingcod and rockfish are on alongside the salmon.

A salmon trip is $330 per angler, up to 6 guests. All gear and tackle are provided. Your fish comes back cleaned for free. The first two weights are included. After that they are $10 each. If you are not sure how that works on the day, ask the captain and he will walk you through it. If you have a group and want the boat to yourselves, the Whole Boat Salmon trip is $1,980 for the boat, up to 6 guests. Same months, same fishing, one price for your group.

This is a small, captain-run charter. Capt. Ben Mechling runs it out of the Berkeley Marina. There are two 30-foot six-pack boats and two licensed captains. They are USCG licensed master captains. Each boat takes six anglers, so that is 12 anglers a day across both boats. Besides salmon, the same boats run halibut, lingcod, rockfish, bluefin tuna, sturgeon and Dungeness crab. We have a 5.0 rating from 170+ Google reviews. You can read them on the Reviews page if you want to hear from people who have been out with us.

You meet the boat at 201 University Avenue, Berkeley. That is the Berkeley Marina. Departure time is not listed on this page, so the captain confirms it when you book. Show up at the time he gives you. From the marina the boat heads across the Bay and out of the Gate to where the salmon are. Everything you need to fish is already on board when you step on. If you have questions about parking or where exactly to walk once you get to the marina, ask the captain when you confirm your trip.

All gear and tackle are provided. You do not need to bring a rod, reel or lures. Your fish gets cleaned for free, so you do not need to bring knives or anything for that. For personal things, like food, drinks or extra layers, ask the captain what makes sense for your day. He has done this a long time and will tell you straight. If you are bringing kids or someone who has never fished, mention it when you book so the captain knows who is coming aboard.

Do I need a fishing license? This page does not cover licenses. Ask the captain when you book and he will tell you what you need before the day of your trip. Do not guess on this one. A quick call or message sorts it out, and he can answer any other rules questions at the same time.

How many salmon can I keep? I am not going to give you a number here, because this page does not list one. Ask the captain. He will tell you what applies on your trip. What I can tell you is that whatever you keep comes back cleaned for free, and the first two weights are included in your $330 seat.

Can I book the whole boat for my group? Yes. The Whole Boat Salmon trip is $1,980 for the boat, up to 6 guests. Up to six anglers, one price, nobody you did not invite. It runs the same months as the per-seat salmon trip, July, September and October. It is a good fit for families, friends or a work group that wants the day to themselves.

To book, go to reeladdictionsportfishingllc.com and use the Book a Trip button, or go to the Contact page to reach us. The captain confirms dates and times by phone.
